24 Things I’ve Learned About Life

Besides Christmas, I think your birthday (as selfish as this may sound) is one of the best days out of the year! Think about it.. there is only ONE of you. Just one! So that means for one full day you get to celebrate when you made your grand entrance into this world. But to me, birthdays go a little bit deeper than that. Every year our birthday rolls around, that’s one more year that God has allowed us to live. Another year that we have made it through all the ups and downs that life throws our way. Some people don’t get to see their next birthday. They are a blessing.

So since today is my 24th birthday, here are 24 things I have learned about life so far!

—————————

one. DON’T TAKE LIFE SO SERIOUSLY- Adulting gets old real quick. Paying bills, taxes, insurance.. blah blah blah. Why can’t we go back to being a kid already, right?! But don’t let it overwhelm you. It’s okay to throw your hands in the air and have an adult tantrum. But this stuff doesn’t have to rule our lives. Take a step back, a deep breath & ENJOY this life!

two. TRAVEL- As cliche as that sounds, it really does give you a different perspective on life. There are still a lot of places I would like to visit, and I hope that I get to. So if you if you have the time and money, DO IT!

three. TAKE A LOT OF PICTURES- I love getting out the photo albums at family gatherings and laughing at all the chubby baby pictures, and seeing the awkward clothes I wore in middle school. Pictures let you relive memories. So take them!! Any kind. Family pics, selfies, pictures of your dogs & kids, vacations… SNAP AWAY!

four. FIND A HOBBY OUTSIDE OF YOUR CAREER- Some people consider their career a hobby, and that’s awesome if you can say that! Maybe your hobby lets you make some side money.. or maybe it’s something you get to do with friends..? For me, I enjoy taking pictures with my camera, blogging & fitness. Those things allow me to be in my own little world where I’m happy. So find passion in things other than your work life!

five. SAVE UP FOR THINGS YOU WANT-  It is SO rewarding saving up for something and being able to pay for it up-front rather than reaching for a credit card and putting yourself in debt. I’m not saying you have to pay cash for a house or your next car, but there are certain things you can definitely take the time to save up for! After all, you end up paying so much money towards interest in the long run. I’ll pass!

six. HAVING A FEW CLOSE FRIENDS IS EVERYTHING- I am a family girl. And I have friends that I consider family. They mean the absolute world to me. So find those people in your life and keep them close.

seven. TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF- This is so important. As much as I love my husband, and the people around me.. sometimes you need a break. Make some coffee and start a new book.. binge watch your favorite TV show.. splurge on a new outfit.. Take time for YOU. Especially in this hustle and bustle life we are living in.

eight. THE GRASS ISN’T ALWAYS GREENER- Yes Yes Yes! I still have to tell myself this from time to time. Worrying about what other people are doing is just going to make you miserable. So what your friend has a job that makes him loads of money.. he might secretly hate that job and never get to see his family. We mess good things up by looking for something better. Be content!

nine. DON’T RUSH THINGS- Trust me, this one is hard to swallow. We are all at different places in our lives. Some of my friends are married with kids, and then some of them aren’t even dating. So do things when you are ready. Not when society tells you that you are ready. Be patient, and let God lead your life.

ten. START YOUR OWN TRADITIONS- Moving out of your parents house means new beginnings. So start some new traditions with your husband, family or friends. It will make you look forward to gatherings and the holidays!

eleven. LISTEN TO MUSIC MORE- I don’t know what it is, but music seems to make everything better. Sad? Music. Happy? Music. Excited? Music. The answer is music.

twelve. EXERCISE & EAT WELL- This one is no surprise! You’ll be healthier.. physically and mentally. You’ve got one body- treat it right!

thirteen. WE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS- No matter if you are a NFL player, a county singer, or Instagram famous.. we are all still human. I can assure you that Carrie Underwood does laundry and takes naps just like we do. Their lives aren’t automatically amazing because they are famous, or have a lot of money.

fourteen. THERE ARE STILL GOOD PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD- Watching the news these days you’d roll your eyes at this statement.. but there are still people who will go out of their way to make a difference. Be one of those people if you get the chance.

fifteen. A GIRLS NIGHT CAN FIX ANYTHING- Okay, maybe not anything.. but popping a bottle of wine and chatting it up with your bestie can make your crummy situation a whole lot better.

sixteen. SAVE FOR RETIREMENT NOW- Don’t wait until you’re a few years out from retiring and then realize you’re probably going to have to work ’til you die because you only saved $100 to live on. Be smart with your money!

seventeen. IT’S OKAY TO SAY NO- Sometimes you don’t want to go out with your friends. You’d rather put your PJ’s on, watch Netflix & beat your husband in Scrabble. Those are the kind of nights you will remember. Cherish them.

eighteen. GET A PLANNER- My life is so much more put together when I have a planner. I would be lost without it. It is so helpful when you’ve got a million things going on! (And when you buy nice, colorful pens, it makes you want to write even more, ha!)

nineteen. PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN AT THE TABLE- I’m guilty of this from time to time, but having a meaningful conversation with the people you are eating with is much more valuable than how many likes your bikini picture got on Instagram. Just put it away.

twenty. SHOP LOCAL- Support your hometowns and buy from the cute boutiques and ice cream shops. You aren’t just helping pay their rent, but you are also giving the owners little girl ballet lessons.

twenty-one. TRUE LOVE DOES EXIST- No explanation needed.

twenty-two. VALUE YOUR PARENTS WISDOM AND ADVICE- Remember that one time you thought you knew everything? Yeah, me too! Your parents have been there done that. They aren’t as dumb as you think. Listen to them.

twenty-three. YOU GET WHAT YOU WORK FOR- Don’t expect to win a ball game if you haven’t practiced.. And don’t expect to have a million dollars if you sit at home all day with no job. Life is going to keep moving whether you are on board or not. So work hard for your goals and dreams!

twenty-four. LET GOD LEAD YOU- He knows what is best for you, and he will never let you down. Always stay true to him & live your life in HIS timing!

I am so blessed to be surrounded by so many people who love me, and I can’t wait to see what 24 has in store for me!
